Mark your calender! Next AGC conference is in Solihull

Next July, the hometown of one of our most successful local Green parties, Solihull, will be the venue for the annual conference of the Association of Green Councillors.

The annual AGC conference is an unrivalled opportunity for Green councillors and aspiring councillorsto network, learn from other councillors, relax and be inspired. See this great video about the last one in Bristol

Solihull people, known as Silhillians, have voted in no fewer than 10 Green councillors in the past handful of years, turning the local party into the main opposition to the Conservative council.

The venue for our conference will be Shirley Community Centre, a massive complex in the bustling centre of Shirley, named the best place to live in the UK in a 2013 survey. Shirley is home to four of Solihull’s 10 Green councillors. The centre is just off Stratford Road, Shirley’s high street with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants and 15 minutes walk from an ancient woodland.

Lunch will be provided from a well-equipped kitchen, and there will as usual be inspirational speakers from outside and inside the Green Party.

The timetable will be posted here as it develops but there will be a session for town and parish councillors, including a chance to discuss ideas on how to produce a Green neighbourhood plan, a session on the psychology of messaging in local elections and an open mike/speakers corner session where councillors share some of their successes or raise some of their problems.

There will also be guidance and advice, as always, for those who are not yet elected but are seeking to be.

There are plenty of cheap hotels in Shirley but some accommodation will also be available with local members, contact Cllr Max McLoughlin on maxmcloughlin@hotmail.com for details.
